Friday, the volleyball team closed out their season at the Division 2 Championships at Nashua North High School. In three games the team held over 30 attacks on the net, 8 aced served and only 2 missed serves. This was by far the most intense and well served game of the season.
Game one Litchfield pulled out an early lead and despite Lyla Buxton’s play at the net, Brynn Rautiola’s expert passing and the team’s constant scrappy play, Litchfield won the first game.
Game two, Annika Martel rocketed off two aced serves and a third to give Boynton a marginal lead. Alaina Kivela floated over two more and Carolena Ojala served up 3 more, by the end of the first rotation the Lady Bulldogs were down, 14-15. After three more servers, Litchfield had stretched their lead to three. Ojala tipped for a kill to win back the serve and Brookelyn Labrie served up three aces plus two more with her team hustling behind her. Ojala again won back the serve with a spike to Litchfield’s back court and served the final point for the win.
With 1-1 tie, the match had to go to a third game to 15. Litchfield got some lucky hits and some well-placed balls as the Bulldogs couldn’t seem to get the lucky drop. Boynton was able to keep Litchfield’s strongest hitter from earning kills as Jillian German, Martel and Rautiola kept a strong defense. Kivela had a season high game with 10 attacks at the net. While the team dug up almost everything hit at them, Litchfield’s serving was excellent and Boynton lost.
This was an amazing season with a phenomenal amount of improvement and a never say die attitude which is what earned us a place in the finals. Well done Bulldogs.
