Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fun yet relaxing holiday. I wanted to take a minute to relay some important information regarding a change in our start time and upcoming ACT testing.
Change in Start Time
We wanted to let you know that we have adjusted our schedule to better meet the needs of our students. Starting January 16th, we will be starting our instructional day five minutes earlier at 7:45.
Student drop off in the back will be before 7:35 – 7:40. Students getting dropped off after that time will need to be dropped off at the front office. Students will be allowed in the building at our regular time, 7:35, and will still report to their various areas (gymnasium for 7/8 and cafeteria for 5/6) before they are released to go to their advisory. This will not impact the dismissal time. Breakfast will still be served in the cafeteria prior to the beginning of the instruction day.
During the first week of this new start time, students who arrive late will not be marked tardy. We have worked with the bus company on this change and at this point, we do not believe it will impact those taking buses however, if it turns out to be a problem, the bus times will be adjusted.
As partners in your child’s education, it is important to ensure they are prepared for each step along their educational journey. One way to determine student preparedness is through assessment. The ACT Aspire test will be administered by grade level teachers on January 17, 2017 and January 18, 2017. Makeup days will be January 22-January 23.
While this test is broken into four subtests; Math, English, Reading, and Science, we will only be testing in Math and Reading. We use this information on these tests to help our staff understand how we can best help your child whether it is through extra help, interventions (RTI), or a specific focus.
Students will not have more than one subtest each day. Test scores will indicate which important skills, abilities and knowledge your student has now and which ones need to be mastered for success in the future. You can learn more about the ACT test at https://www.discoveractaspire.org/.
Please make sure your child gets adequate sleep and has a good breakfast on testing days to ensure a successful and accurate testing experience. We look forward to sharing the testing results with you.
